Description
This artwork contains a cross over a serpent, or snake. The cross has defeated the snake. The symbolic painting mixes the Old and New Testaments. There is a medieval tone to the hand painted piece, and it reminds me of an altarpiece as I look at it. Yes, I am the one who painted it, but my art often continues to speak to me after I have painted it.
.................................................
In the book of Genesis, God tells the serpent, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15, King James 2000 Bible). Although the Lord's heel was bruised, He is ultimately the victor.
.............................................................
The main colors here are red, yellow, blue, and green, mostly a blue-green for the green part. There is a yellow-green background behind the cross. There are jewels, scroll lines (that would be the curvy lines), and a look of texture. The snake was deliberately painted in a somewhat simple style, in keeping with a medieval tone.
............................................................
The symmetry here is not perfect, as the entire piece was hand-drawn and hand-painted. I did not want mechanical exactness; I wanted the human element.
