Description
About the art: This print is from an acrylic painting on stretched canvas. It
was inspired by the YMCA building in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. I was
struck by the black lamps, the white, smooth stones, and the columns. Of
course, it is hand painted. Main colors are white, black, and green. There is
some blue also.
...........................
Shreveport boasts many beautiful old buildings--homes, places of business, and
empty buildings that were once glorious and lively.
..........................
The city was founded in 1836 By the Shreve Town Company, named for Captain
Henry Miller Shreve. He was responsible for the clearing of the intriguing Red
River raft, a polite name for a 180-mile long pile of debris that had clogged
the Red River for longer than anyone knew. It was said that in some places, the
raft was so thick that a man could ride his horse across the river, and not so
much as the hoofs would get wet.
...........................
Stay tuned. I plan to paint and upload more of the Shreveport area and the
edifices of the past and present.
