Description
This hand painted art began life as an acrylic painting. Two yellow gold pears and an eaten core sit on a blue plate. The background is a rich red fabric, with hints of orange and purple. It is a still life. The original artwork is 16 x 20 inches on stretched canvas, and is in a private collection. I call it "Hijacked Still Life."
............................
Much of the work of creating a still life occurs before the brush is lifted. First, I decide where the setup will be, paying attention to the light source and often using large objects to channel or block some of the light. I usually arrange the fruit into several different positions, finally settling on one arrangement. Sometimes I draw the objects or fruit with a pen or pencil before painting. Other times, I just head straight for the paint brush.
............................
When I paint fruit, I have to be careful not to eat it! It is tempting to sit in front of those luscious pears. I am supposed to paint them, not eat them. This time, I painted the results of yielding to temptation.
