Description
When I was a child, we had a storm cellar. It was a small, concrete room in the ground, reached by a set of steps. When the sky turned gray and the clouds started boiling, my father would gather us up and off we would trek to the storm cellar, which was about 20 feet from the house. I have many memories of storms.
..............................
I remember when a streak of lightning would light the night, and for a second, the night turned to day. I remember the sharp CRACK! of thunder that followed the lightning. Sometimes, when the lightning was close, thunder and lightning came simutaneously. I can still feel the combination of fear and wonder.
.............................
And then there are the memories of that storm house, which was our name for the cellar. There was a strange, somewhat earthy smell that I cannot describe. There was a coziness too. Sometimes, there were as many as eight people in the storm house, and I recall drifting off to sleep on the bed that was there, and waking the next morning in my own room.

About the art: This hand painted artwork is what I consider a cross between abstract and impressionist. The original is an oil painting. Colors are orange, blue, yellow, and shades of dark green. It features a violent thunder storm in a darkened sky. The landscape has a rough, abstract look. The larger sizes will appear quite abstract when viewed closely. Step back, and it all comes together.
