This landscape was mostly painted from the Lighthouse cabin on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle. I wanted to pain en plein aire, so I set up my French easel outside the little rock cabin. The wind was up and the acrylic paint dried rapidly. It was a race against time!

The main colors here are green, gray, blue, and tones of yellow--a little white, also. It features mesas and rocks. It is painted in a loose, somewhat impressionistic style. I had to hurry! But--in all honesty, it was finished indoors.

On the first night in the cabin, I could hear thunder, rain, and strong winds whipping down the canyon. I peered outside, and--everything was dry! There was no lightning, thunder, or rain. The wind was making all the noise, barreling around the rocks of the cabin. About the second day, I found a snake, huddling under the front of my shoe as I picked it up. Hubby said it was non-pois...
