Description
Mars is the fourth planet from the sun, coming in right behind Earth. As a child in school, I was fascinated with the study of space, and can remember seeing photos of the planets as I read my science textbook. Of course, the pictures were not as detailed as what we can now see. Since the rovers began, Mars seems to be up close and personal in a way that I could not have expected as a child. Now, we can actually see Martian landscapes.
..........................
Mars is named for the Roman god of war who was of course, named Mars. It is smaller than Earth, and has much less water. At this writing, many scientists are hoping and praying (those who pray) that they can find life on Mars. Even though Mars is about half the size of Earth, it has the same amount of dry land, owing to the fact that water is sparse in the cold, thin atmostphere and exists as ice. I consider it a dry, desert planet.
..........................
About the art itself: This oil painting is a hand painted artwork. Reproductions are available in several sizes. It was inspired by the many martian landscape shots taken by the rovers. Colors are gray, orange, yellow, and maybe a small amount of blue, but not pure blue. There are maritan rocks and a martian sky. The orange color is due to that rust look that comes with a high iron oxide content. Mars is known as the red planet.
