Description
This is Front Street in Natchitoches--the River Walk. A young woman sits on a park bench, wrapped in a blanket and wearing a head ornament that makes her resemble a hippie from the 1970's. Other figures are walking up and down the sidewalk, whcih seems to glow from the light, and the excitement of the fun to come. On the left, beyond the steep hill, lies the park and Cane River Lake, a horseshoe lake that form when the Red River changed course. There is to be a Mardi Gras parade on this night.

This painting features green, pink, blue, and a sprinkling of yellow and other colors. We had had a nice day of dining and shopping in the historical town, and had decided to stay for the Mardi Gras event.

Natchitoches was founded in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis, to whom large numbers of Louisianians trace our ancestry. A Quebec Frenchman who married a Spanish girl from Mexico, his history is colorful and worth a look.
