Description
This is Front Street in Natchitoches--the River Walk. Night has fallen and people are lining the streets, hoping to get a view of the parade, which is about to start. Bright yellow lights shine on the dark streets. The deep blue sky has a magical aura. We had had a nice day of dining and shopping in the historical town, and had decided to stay for the parade.

Natchitoches (loosely pronounced NAK a tesh) is the oldest continual settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. It was named after an Indian tribe. Natchitoches was founded in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis, to whom large numbers of Louisianians trace our ancestry. A Quebec Frenchman who married a Spanish girl from Mexico, his history is colorful and worth a look. Today, the town has a charming historic district, which lies above river walk. With old buildings and plantations, the area is captivating to those with an interest in the past.
