This is an oil painting of an old wood barn that once stood near Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. This homestead has seen many high winds and tornadoes. One F5 tornado passed through in 1939, and most of the family living there lost their lives. It was so shocking to the community that people never forgot it. Although I was not yet born, I still find it sad, and have been to the family grave site.

At the time that I painted this barn, it had seen its own share of high winds and tornadoes, and already had some damage. I remember going out back, behind the house that was there, and taking photographs of the barn. More high winds came, and the barn was soon in ruins. It was no longer used as a barn, and is no longer standing today. I have hand painted two or three versions of it.
