Artist's Description
This impressionistic oil painting was inspired by Melrose in Natchitoches (NAK ə təsh) Parish, Louisiana. Melrose was once the site of a plantation called Yucca House, which was owned by Marie Therese Coincoin, who was a former slave. The plantation passed into other hands and later became known as Melrose. Although Yucca House is still standing, the mansion in the painting is loosely based on the current "big house."

Many of the oak trees here are about 160 years old. There is nothing quite like being among old trees. Each huge limb is large enough to be a tree in itself. The trunk is rough, with many folds and fissures. There are many such trees and plantations in Louisiana, and the Cane River area alone is home to a large number of them. If you are ever in central western Louisiana, come to Natchitoches Parish, visit some plantations, and step back into history.
About Lenora De Lude
Explore rough, rocky landscapes and old, crumbling buildings, made of rocks, stone, stucco, and wood. There are paintings of Louisiana and the southwest states of Texas, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. You'll also find fanciful works of imagination. These are the paintings of Lenora De Lude. "When I look at the beauty and majesty of creation, I know I can never duplicate the work of the ultimate Master, God Himself. But He has put a creative spark into me, and so I create. Come and see my creations. Pick up a few prints and cards. More will be added soon, and then more after that."
