Artist's Description
The Rock Chapel is located in DeSoto Parish. The chapel and six graves are all that remains of the Carmelite Monastery. According to desotoisdifferent.org, it was built in 1891 by Carmelite monks as a small retreat. The site goes on to say that there were once about sixty men and boys under the tutelage of Father Peters, and that six nuns resided in the convent on the property. In 1904, the monastery and the larger church were destroyed by fire.
I painted this piece with acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Main colors are green, brown, rust, gray, and a bit of blue for the sky beyond. Feel free to message me with any questions about the artwork.
About Lenora De Lude
Explore rough, rocky landscapes and old, crumbling buildings, made of rocks, stone, stucco, and wood. There are paintings of Louisiana and the southwest states of Texas, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. You'll also find fanciful works of imagination. These are the paintings of Lenora De Lude. "When I look at the beauty and majesty of creation, I know I can never duplicate the work of the ultimate Master, God Himself. But He has put a creative spark into me, and so I create. Come and see my creations. Pick up a few prints and cards. More will be added soon, and then more after that."
