Description
This is a tree with a face. I found some wild, leafy vines and wound them around the trunk of the tree. I fashioned eyes, a nose, a mouth, and a leaf beard. Knowing it would not last, I took a photograph of it. Later, I put it into a painting. This artwork was hand-painted in acrylic. The sky is somewhat violet, or purple. The ground is green with yellow accents. The landscape is the stage for the tree, which is in the foreground.

I wanted to call it Old Man of the Woods, but then I learned that a mushroom is known by that name. Still, I think of this tree face as an ancient creature of the woods.

If you have never made temporary art outdoors, you should consider trying it. You could arrange rocks into an interesting sculpture--make sure they are not near the path of a lawn mower! Or take different colored flower petals and press them artfully into rough bark. Hang some vines and berries from low tree limbs. The possibilities start to present themselves as you get into it.
