Natchitoches (NAK-e-tash) is the oldest continual settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. It was named after an Indian tribe. Natchitoches was founded in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis, to whom large numbers of Louisianians trace our ancestry.
