Title
Fireplace at Melrose Plantation Louisiana
Artist
Lenora De Lude
Medium
Painting - Oil
Description
This impressionistic oil painting features a lone red brick fireplace, standing among green foliage and vines. There are a few trees in the background. These red bricks actually give an orange effect. Blown to a large size, this painting is wild with color and the illusion of texture. I say "illusion" because I'm speaking of the reproduction, not the original.
................................
A large reproduction would be suitable for a larger room. Standing close to the art, the piece may appear almost abstract, with the brushstrokes visible. Step back, and everything comes together in a beautiful way. Smaller sizes are alos available.
................................
This old fireplace, which was once part of a detached kitchen, stands alone on the grounds of Melrose, an interesting spread that consists of a large house and several other historical buildings. Melrose is located a few miles south of Natchitoches, Louisiana.
.................................
Melrose was once the site of a plantation called Yucca House, which was owned by Marie Therese Coincoin, who was a former slave. The plantation passed into other hands and later became known as Melrose. Yucca House is still standing, several yards behind the newer "big house."
