Description
These three ripe tomatoes were hand painted. The original is a still life oil painting. Three tomatoes sit on a wooden porch. There is a lot of perspective in the wooden boards. The red orange tomatoes are a bit shiny. Produce can be beautiful in artwork. Colors in this art art are red, orange, green, blue, and gray. There is a small amount of white and perhaps yellow, in some areas.
................................
These tomatoes were painted from life, meaning that they posed for me; I did not use a photograph. The location was outdoors; does this mean the painting was done en plein air? I love painting things that I am actually viewing. Painting from a photo can be effective, fulfilling, and sometimes necessary, but there is something extra exciting about looking at the actual object--or landscape--and bringing it to life on canvas. I strive to take a plain, ordinary object, and bring out its beauty as I paint it.

Speaking of tomatoes, botanically, they are a fruit, but most people just call them vegetables, especially in the cooking arena. This artist loves the sharp, herb like smell of the foliage. Although the leaves hold a low level of poison (high enough to keep me from eating them), the ripe, red fruit is better than great for eating!
